India won World Cup

For second time in history India was crowned World Cup champions as they won against Sri Lanka by six wickets at Mumbai on Saturday.

Gautam Gambhir played an smooth knock, having a bit of luck as he stroked his way to 97 before getting too tired, but while Dhoni also fought against his mental strength, s

aw him finish with 91 out of 79 balls as he took India home with ten balls to spare, triggering the celebrations both in the stadium and all around the country.

Lasith Malinga stunned the Wankhede attendance when he put out Virender Sehwag and local hero Sachin Tendulkar before, waking up Tendulkar for his dream of scoring his 100th hundred in the final.

As Malinga set off on a 50-yard celebration in a hushed field, suddenly it seemed as India wasn’t making it after all, but Gambhir and Virat Kohli revived the crowd inside the stadium with an 83-run duo work that put India back on the track.

Tillakaratne Dilshan took Sri Lanka back in the match when he made a brilliant one-handed catch of his own bowling to dismiss Kohli and bringing an out-of-shape Dhoni to the crease scoring 114 for three.

Sangakkara put on 62 with Jayawardene in the apparent defining partnership of the innings, but then edged the shortest delivery that Yuvraj Singh bowled to him and was caught by Dhoni.

All five past World Cup skippers had gone on to lift the cup, but sadly for Jayawardene, the trend was ended when Dhoni played the match-defining innings.
